Industrial Bearings are commonly used in Chrome Steel material (often referred to as Bearing Steel.)  This steel does not have inherent corrosion resistant properties and relied heavily on preservative coating and grease (inside the bearing) for corrosion resistance.  Eventually the external coating will dissipate and the exterior of this bearing will corrode.  Another option for application requiring corrosion resistance is Stainless Steel.  This material has better resistance to corrosion and is better suited for humid, outdoor, and other environments, but comes with a premium – it is more expensive than Chrome Steel.
